Fadrique used the unaltered arms of Castilla and was unsuccessful pretender in 1240 to the Duchy of Swabia. For years he was resident in Italy and Africa but back at court by 26 February 1272. He was deprived of his titles for absenteeism by the King in 1269 but restored in 1272. He had liaisons in Italy with one or more mistresses. His alleged marriage to Katherina, called Despina, of Epiros seems aprocryphal, perhaps based on a typical speculation by Pellicer. The last Despina, daughter of Despot Nicephoros Angelos was the wife of Philippe, Prince of Taranto, of the house of Anjou.3
