     Sarah Lawrence was baptized on 4 June 1592.1,2 She married Richard Colvile of Newton Hall, Isle of Ely, Cambridge.3 Sarah died on 17 April 1631 at age 38.1 She was interred in Chelsea, Middlesex, England.

Narrative

     On the same wall as the monument to Thomas Lawrence, her father, is the monument of Mrs. Sarah Colvile. It represents the deceased, in a winding-sheet, rising from her tomb, and bears the following inscription-- "And you shal know that I am the Lord when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your sepulchres." Ezeh. 37. vers. 13.

     Arms: Quarterly, 1 and 4. Azure, a lion rempant argent, a label of three points gules; 2 Argent, three chessrooks gules, Walshingham; 3. Argent, on a bend sa. a benzant, pinchbeck; impaling Laurence. Crest: 1. A lion rampant arg. 2. A chessrook.4

Major Life Event

     John Lawrence was baptized on 11 May 1610 in Chelsea, Middlesex, England.1,2 He married Mary (May) Hempson before or about 1646 in England.1 John died after 28 December 1680.1

Narrative

     John was also known as [Sir] John Lawrence.

     Sir John was the second Baronet. He entered Oxford at age 17. In 1631 he was admitted to the Inner Temple. Sir John succeded to the Baronetcy 13 November 1638.3

     In 1650 he bought Bardwell Manor, Bucks. It was sold in 1666.4 (Note: According to Schuyler Lawrence, Sir John sold Bardwell Manor in 1666, yet says he died in 1664. From the information in G.E.C. Complete Baronetage it would appear that it was his wife who was buried 11 October 1664 in Chelsea, not Sir John and Schyler Lawrence had confused the two. G.E.C. states that Sir John was living 28 December 1680 but died before 19 February 1710/11.

     This Sir John Lawrence repaired the monument of Sir Thomas More in Chelsea Church and had this inscription recut upon a slab of black marble "After he was beheade, this trunke was interred in Chelsea church, near the middle of the south wall, where was some slight monument erected, which being worne by time, Sir [John] Laurence of Chelsea (no kinne to him) at his own proper costs and chardges erected to his memorie a handsome inscription of marble."5

     On a black marble on the floor of the Lawrence Chapel at Chesea:--Sacred to the memory of Henry Laurence, Turkey merchant, youngest sonne of Sir John Laurence, Knt. & Baronet, who dyed in the 30th year of his age, the 14th of October 1661.

     Here rests ye weary Marchant, having tri'd
     And finding this world's trafflick vain delite
     That empty trifle, and hee's got to trad
     In th' other world for gaines which never fade;
     Thence you shall see when he acquits this urne
     Of everlasting crownes a brave returne;

     Rebecca Page was born on 8 November 1682 in Isle of Wight Co., Virginia.2,3 She married Thomas Gay, son of Henry Gay [I] and Joane (Jane) Sanders, on 11 January 1699/0 in Nansemond Co., Virginia. Thomas and Rebecca were married at Chuckatuck Quaker Meeting House.2
