Grinnell, in his manuscript, indicates that John died in Manakin in 1744. A pedigree chart in The Huguenot, Publication No. 30, submitted by Mary V. Bondurant Epling, indicates that John died about 1744 in Buckingham County, but before 1776, and that his death was recorded in Powhatten County. A GEDCOM received from Ruby Talley Smith indicated he died in 1774.

Peter Ford was born on 11 January 1733/34 in Manakin Town, Virginia.1,2,3 He married first Judith Maxey, daughter of John Maxey and Sarah Sampson, before 1755.1,4 He married second Marie ? before 1776.1,4 He married third Sarah Brooks after 1778.1,4 He married fourth R:Bride on 15 December 1791 in Madison Co., Kentucky.4 Peter died before 5 October 1801 in Madison Co., Kentucky.1,2In 1786, Peter Ford joined the McKnitt Company on the move to Kentucky. His sons Joel and John and his father and brothers James and Boaz remained in Buckingham Co., Virginia.
They reached a camp site on the rise above Little Laurel River just two miles south of London, Kentucky and being so near their destination they apparently relaxed their security in celebration of their sucessful journey.
On the night of October 3, 1786, a band of Miami Indians attacked the McKnitt Company. According to Z. F. Smith, History of Kentucky (1886) in October 1786 a large number of families known as the McKnitt Company were surprised new Laurel River and over twenty killed dispersed or taken prisoner.
The above information is from the Genealogy of Hill Family 1978 by L. Henry Hill as printed in The Huguenot Publication.1
Tirey Ford, in his manuscript on the Ford family5, gives the following account of the incident:
Grandfather (Jacob Ford) was at the upper end [of the valley] on guard when he suddenly heard the guns firing, women and children screaming, and Indians yelling in the camp. He fired several times at what he supposed were Indians. Then a man came along supporting his mother and said, 'Don't shoot again. I say several of our people shoot our friends. Help me out of here with my wife and mother.' So they went up the valley into the mountains. The next day, he (Jacob) tried to find his way back to Kentucky, but he was unsuccessful and for two days and nights was without food.
On his way he met a party coming out to see about the defeat and to bury the dead. They found that a great many had been killed and that the Indians had taken away and destroyed all the property. Grandfather found his father and half-brother, Laban, in the camp. His father was lame and unable to walk, having white swelling in his knee. The morning of the fight he slipped down a bank and hid himself in a drift. After the Indians had left, he crawled out, calling Jacob and Obediah. Laban answered, he being up a tree where he had climbed to escape from the Indians. Obediah had been badly wounded by the Indians. They took him prisoner, carried him a few miles from camp and tomahawked him, since he was unable to keep up. Anna and Polly, age eighteen and eight years respectively, were taken prisoners to Sandusky, where they were separated. Anna was kept prisoner for a time. At last a white prisoner came to here and said if she would pledge herself not to betray him under any circumstances, he would assist her in making her escape. Consequently she prepared to leave. He carried her accross the river and told her how to find the white settlement. She traveled all night. The next day she came to a house where she was fed and concealed from the Indians for a time. She finally made her way to Quebec. Her brother, Joel Ford of Virginia, having heard of her by letter, went after her on horse back. On returning to Virginia, she married and reared a large family.
Polly was adopted in an Indian family and carried to Vincennes, where she remained seventeen years. She married while there and had a son. See Mary (Polly) Ford for more information on Polly.

Revolutionary Public Service Claims: This is to certify that the following is a true copy of an entry in a booklet deposited in the manuscript division of the Virginia State Library, Richmond, Virginia, designated 'Buckingham County Public Service Claims.' Conflicting information in the Huguenot Publication indicates that Peter had no offspring by his second wife and that Laban, Sarah (Sally), and Mary (Polly) were offspring by his third wife, the widow Brooks.1 Clark in her The Maxeys of Virginia also indicates that Laban, Sarah, and Mary were children of the widow Brooks.4 However, Tirey Ford in his Tradition of the Ford Family indicates that Sarah was a child of Peter's first wife, Judith Ford, and that Laban and Mary were children of his second wife.5
Peter made a will on 4 March 1798 in Madison Co., Kentucky. In his will he refers to fifty acres of land, "I give to my daughter Polly, if she is ever recovered from the Indians." Polly was recovered shortly after her father's death and married John Prewitt on September 1805 in Madison Co., Kentucky.1
His will was proved on 5 October 1801.1
