Also, Lynn Allen Bumpass manuscript indicates that John's brother, Diggs, married a Frances Bedford who was the widow of Robert Bedford. I am not sure whether there were two Frances Bedfords or rather this has been confused.

Narrative

Samuel left Massachusetts and headed south to Virginia. He was not mentioned in his father's will. It is believed that Samuel settled in the area where Washington, DC now stands. Before 1700 he was established as a tobacco grower. He went to North Carolina with his son Robert but later returned to Virginia. Samuel's date of death is not known but it is said he lived to be a very old man. Family tradition indicates that he was thrown into the Potomac River and drowned by rebellious slaves.

It is not known which of his three wives were the mother of John and Robert, however it is likely that his first wife surnamed Gabriel may have been as Garbriel shows up as a given name in future generations descended from John and Robert. I am assuming that his third wife was the mother of Diggs but have no definate proof. Also, it is not known whether he had any daughters.

Children of John and Sarah Hunter

Narrative

John lived at Scituate in 1676 when his house was burned by Indians. He moved to Rochester before 1685. He also resided at Marshfield. He moved to Middleboro from Marshfield and then to Rochester and perhaps again to Middleboro. John took the oath of fidelity at Marshfield in 1657 and made Freeman. He was a farmer.

His will was proved 7 June 1715 and does not mention Samuel who had already disappeared to the south, nor Zoar. He mentions Job who went south after his father's death.

The last name of his wife, Sarah, may not be Hunter as some researchers believe.
