     Mary Wood married Lemuel Lawrence, son of John Lawrence.¹ Mary died on 22 October 1813.¹

     Jonas Lawrence was born on 9 January 1776.¹ He married Charlotte Elizabeth Holland, daughter of Joseph Holland.¹ Jonas died on 19 October 1813 at age 37.¹During the War of 1812 Jonas Lawrence served in Capt. David Dukes Company of Infantry which was called into service by the Commandant of the 59th Regiment from May 1, 1813, to May 6, 1813. The Muster and Pay Roll indicates Jonas Lawrence was paid for 3 days service.¹

     The following bill of sale between James Cotton and Jonas Lawrence is recorded in Nothampton County, North Carolina.¹

Know all men by these presents that I James Cotton of Northampton County and State of North Carolina, for and in consideration of the sume of Seventy five pounds in Gold and Silver to me in hand paid, by Jonas Lawrence of the County and State aforesaid The receipt whereof, I do hereby acknowledge, have bargained, Sold and delivered, and by these presents, according to the due form of law, do bargain. Sell and deliver unto the said Jonas Lawrence a certain Negroe man by the name of Locker formerly the property of John Lawrence of Nansemond County and the State of Virginia and the said Lawrence give the said negroe by deed of gift to James Dickenson of Northampton County and State of North Carolina and the said Dickenson in his last will and testament give the said negroe to his Daughter Elizabeth, to have and to hold the said bargained negroe unto the said Jonas Lawrence, his heirs Exec Adm and assigns for Ever and I the said James Cotton do for my Self my Heirs, etc. for Ever warrant and defend the right and title of said Negroe Locker unto the said Jonas Lawrence and his Heirs for Ever, having a good and Lawful right to sell and dispose of the same, as witness my hand and seal this 11th day of Feby 1796.

     On 28 January 1803, Jonas Lawrence brought 107 acres in Nansemond County, Virginia, from Benjamin Lawrence as follows:¹

This Indenture made the twenty eighth day of January one thousand eight hundred & three. Between Benjamin Lawrence & Honour his wife & Shadrack Griffen & Ann his wife on the one part & Jonas Lawrence on the other part Witnesseth that the said Benjamin Lawrence & Honour his wife & Shadrack Griffen & Ann his wife for & in consideration of One hundred & Sixty pounds virg: mony to them in hand paid by the said Jonas Lawrence, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledg'd - Have bargain'd, sold & deliver'd & by these presents doth bargain sell & deliver unto the said Jonas Lawrence, a certain tract of land lying in Nansemond County near Southquay formerly the property of Miles Lawrence deceased containing one hundred & Seven acres more or less, bounded by Black water River & the Lands of Joseph Holland & Jonas Lawrence & the reversion and reversions remainder & remainders, yearly & other rents, issues & profits thereof, & ever part & parcell thereof, & also all the right title claim & demand whatever of them the said Benjamin Lawrence & Honour his wife & Shadrack Griffen & Ann his wife, in, to or out of the said Lands & tenements. To Have and to hold the same one hundred & Seven acres of Land herein before mentioned, with their & every of their appurtenances unto the said Jonas Lawrence his heirs, Executors, Administrators & assigns forever

And the said Benjamin Lawrence and Honour his wife & Shadrack Griffen & Ann his wife, the said lands, tenements & promises unto the said Jonas Lawrence his heirs & assigns, shall & will warrant & forever defend by these presents, In Witness whereof the said Benjamin Lawrence & Honour his wife and Shadrack Griffen & Ann his wife have hereunto set their hand and affixed their seals the day & date first written.

At a court held, for Nansemond County April the 11th 1803 This Indenture was acknowledged by the said Benjamin Lawrence a part thereto and as to his is ordered to be - Recorded, and at a court held for the said County on the 12th day of September 1803 The said Indenture was also - acknowledged by the said Shadrack Griffin & Ann his wife & Honour Lawrence the wife of the said Benjamin Lawernce also parties thereto, they having been first privily examined as the law directs & as to them is also Ordered to be recorded.

     Lemuel Lawrence deeded 686 acres to his son Jonas on 16 March 1805. That deed follows:¹

This indenture made this sixteenth day of March in the year of our Lord God One Thousand Eight Hundred and five, Between Lemuel Lawrence of the County of Northampton and State of No. Carolina, of the one part and Jonas Lawrence of the County of Nancy-mond and State of Virginia of the other part Witnesseth That I the said Lemuel Lawrence, for and in consideration of the love and affection that I bear unto my son the aforesaid Jonas Lawrence, give grant and confirm unto the said Jonas Lawrence a certain tract or parcel of land lying in the County of Northampton, and State of No. Carolina, containing by Estimation Six Hundred and Eighty Six Acres, be the same more or less, it being a tract of Land that the said Lemuel Lawrence bourth of Matthew Figures, and bounden as followeth (to wit) Begining at a Holley James Washingtons Corner, Thence along his line to a red Oak, Benjamin Cookleys Corner, Thence W.N.W. to a red oak in William Sherrards line, Thence W.6S° along a line of marked trees to a white Oak Mary Sherrards line a Corner Thence along the said Sherrards line, to a Corner on the low grounds of the River, Thence along the Edge of the low grounds to a white Oak, the said Figures Corner, Thence S°26.E37 poles to the River, a Cypress, Thence the Various Courses of the River to a Corner, Thomas Figure's Thence the Dividing line between said Figures and self to a Holley on the River, Thence up the Various Courses of the River to the first Station, To Have and to hold the said land and premises unto him the said Jonas Lawrence and his Heirs for Ever, and I the said Lemuel Lawrence do for myself my Heirs etc. for Ever warrants and Defend the right and Title of said Land, and Every part and parcel thereof unto him the said Jonas Lawernce and his Heirs for Ever in witness whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal the day and date above mentioned.

     On 19 February 1808, Lemuel deeded a negro man to his son Jonas as follows:¹

Know all men by these presents that I Lemuel Lawrence of the County of Northampton and State of N. Carolina, for and in consideration of the love, and paternal affection that I have and do bear unto my Son Jonas Lawrence of the County of Nancymond and State of Virginia, doth give after my death a certain Negroe Man by the name of Luke to him and his Heirs for Ever, and before the Insealing and Delivering hereof I do further acknowledge that I have a good and Lawful Right to the said Negroe Man Luke, and as Such I the said Lemuel Lawernce do for my self my Heirs, etc. for Ever warrant and defend the right and title of said Negroe unto him the said Jonas Lawernce and his Heirs for Ever, In witness thereof I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal this 19th day of February 1808.

     Amy Lloyd married Hardy Lawrence, son of Robert Lawrence [IV] and Anne Council, on 1 July 1762 in Southampton Co., Virginia.^1,2

     Patty ? married Hardy Lawrence, son of Robert Lawrence [IV] and Anne Council, before 1788.¹

     Unknown Roe married Polly Pope, daughter of Hardy Lawrence and Martha Gay.¹

     Nancy Lawrence was born circa 1787.¹

     Betsey Lawrence was born circa 1789.¹

     Amey Lawrence was born circa 1791.¹

     Robert Lawrence was born on 17 August 1793.¹ He married Elizabeth G. Allen, daughter of William Allen and Mary Houghton, on 15 December 1814.¹ Robert died on 29 October 1866 in Nansemond Co., Virginia, at age 73.¹ He was interred in St. John's Church Cemetery in Chuckatuck, Nansemond Co., Virginia.²Robert met his future wife, Elizabeth Allen, while in Norfolk serving in the War of 1812. Her home was in Warwick County.

     Patience Lawrence was born circa 1794.¹

     Elizabeth G. Allen was born on 20 October 1797.¹ She married Robert Lawrence, son of George Lawrence and Sarah Beale, on 15 December 1814.¹ Elizabeth died on 26 October 1877 in Nansemond Co., Virginia, at age 80.¹ She was interred in St. John's Church Cemetery in Chuckatuck, Nansemond Co., Virginia.²

     Mary Lawrence was born on 26 November 1823.¹ Mary died unmarried on 7 February 1910 at age 86.¹ She was interred in St. John's Church Cemetery in Chuckatuck, Nansemond Co., Virginia.²
