     Verlinda Schofield married William Bailey Whitfield, son of Bryan Whitfield and Catherine Bailey, on 15 October 1835.¹

     Mary Inez Whitfield was born in 1831.¹

     Mary D. Whitfield was born in 1831.¹

     William Robert Whitfield was born on 6 December 1847.¹ He married first Francis Texana Parks.¹ He married second Viola Chapman on 12 June 1870.¹ He married third Eliza A. Lane, daughter of Hugh Lane and Ann Brown, on 29 October 1874.¹ He married fourth Malinda Roland on 13 October 1891.¹ William died in 1929.¹

     Sarah Elizabeth Whitfield was born on 2 August 1859.¹

     Matthew Jones married Emily Jackson, daughter of William Staten Jackson and Clarise M. Lanier.¹

     James B. Hayman married Sarah Ann Jackson, daughter of William Staten Jackson and Clarise M. Lanier.¹

     John Wesley Platt married Mary Jane Jackson, daughter of William Staten Jackson and Elizabeth Ann Burnham, on 7 July 1859 in Dade City, Florida.¹ John Wesley Platt was interred in Mt. Zion Cemetery in Dade City, Florida.¹John served in the Indian War of 1855-56. He also joined the Union Army and fought in the Civil War. He became a first Lieutenant in the 2nd Florida Calvary, Unit B. After the war he returned to Ft. Dade, where he visited his grandfather in Hernando County. While there he met and married Mary Jane Jackson. They raised their family on the Platt homestead.

     There were no schools in the area. Neighboring families got together and hired a teacher for three months each year. The first teacher was a Mr. Carter. Near the Platt home was a campground where the families of the community met for religious services. Families from nearby settlements also got together for camp meetings where visiting ministers from the area came to preach.

     John became a successful cattle rancher. His herd grazed over much of the flat woods in Pasco and Hillsboro Counties.¹

     John's borthers and sisters lived in Desota Co. and are buried at Pine Level Cemetery.
