Wilhite was born on 5 December 1819 in Tennessee.^1,2,3,4 He married Margaret Rose, daughter of Elisha Rose and Unknown ?, on 28 October 1840 in Blount Co., Tennessee.⁵ John died on 28 November 1889 in Knox Co., Tennessee, at age 69.⁴ He was interred in New Hopewell Baptist Cemetery in Kimberlin Heights, Knox Co., Tennessee.⁴

     Margaret Rose was born on 18 January 1820 in Sevier Co., Tennessee.^1,2,3,4,5,6 She married John M. Wilhite, son of James Wilhite and Comfort Stansbury, on 28 October 1840 in Blount Co., Tennessee.⁷ Margaret died on 16 September 1903 in Knox Co., Tennessee, at age 83.⁵ She was interred in New Hopewell Baptist Cemetery in Kimberlin Heights, Knox Co., Tennessee.⁵

     Mary Jane Wilhite was born in Tennessee.¹

     A Mary Jane has been included by some as a child of John and Margaret Wilhite and some have indicated she had a daughter Phoebe, apparently illigitimate. However, I have been unable to find any records of Mary. There is a Phoebe listed in the 1900 census as a niece to William and Amanda (Wilhite) Dykes. This is probably the Phoebe attributed to Mary. However, she could have been the daughter of Elisha. Elisha was last listed on the 1880 census as single and with his parents and died in 1887. He could have married and fathered this Phoebe who was born in 1883 between 1880 and his death in 1887.

     Wesley Dykes was born in October 1833 in Tennessee.^1,2,3 He married Amanda E. Wilhite, daughter of John M. Wilhite and Margaret Rose, on 13 July 1889 in Knox Co., Tennessee.⁴

     Wesley Dykes was listed as the head of a family on the 1900 Census enumerated 4 June 1900, in Civil District 15, Knox Co., Tennessee. He was listed at age 66, occupation as a farm laborer, born in Tennessee. Also enumerated in the household: Amanda E. Dykes, Margaret Rose and Phoebe Wilhite.²

     Wesley Dykes was listed as the head of a family on the 1910 Census enumerated 10 May 1910, in Civil District 3, Knox Co., Tennessee. He was listed at age 78, occupation as own income, born in Tennessee. Also enumerated in the household: Amanda E. Dykes.³

     J. N. Julian was born on 20 June 1841.¹ He married Comfort E. Wilhite, daughter of John M. Wilhite and Margaret Rose, on 5 April 1873 in Knox Co., Tennessee.² J. died on 28 March 1908 at age 66.¹

     James Wilhite was born on 18 June 1791 in Knox Co., Tennessee.¹ He married Comfort Stansbury, daughter of Luke Stansbury and Nancy Haddock, on 22 December 1813 in Knox Co., Tennessee.² James died on 21 December 1854 in Knox Co., Tennessee, at age 63.¹ He was interred in New Hopewell Baptist Cemetery in Kimberlin Heights, Knox Co., Tennessee.¹

     James gave land for building the New Hopewell Babtist Church in about 1836. Location of the first church building was only a few yards from the schoolhouse where the church was first organized on this land donated by James. It was considered a rather grand buildng for that day since it was a frame structure as opposed to logs. The church had one extra large room, and the ceiling was rather low. There were two doors in the front end of the building, one for the men and the other for the women. It was the custom in those days for the men to sit on one side of the church and the women to sit on the other side. There was a door in the center of one of the sides to be used by the preachers and a door in the back end of the building which gave easy access to the cemetery and to the wood supply for a big stove. The pulpit was built rather high and had several steps to climb. The building was lighted with candles which the members made at home and brought to the services. The services usually started at early candle-lighting time.

     As the population of the area grew, the little school house next door soon became to small to accomodate all of the children and the new church building served as a school during the week and a church on the week ends. This first building lasted until a second building was built in 1880-1882.

     In the Census of 1850 enumerated 9 November 1850, James Wilhite was listed as a head of household in Knox Co., Tennessee. He was listed at age 59, occupation as farming, born in Tennessee. Also enumerated in the household: Comfort Wilhite, Nancy W. Wilhite and Margaret E. Wilhite.³

     Comfort Stansbury was born on 15 December 1791 in Virginia.^1,2,3 She married James Wilhite, son of Adam Wilhite and Missy Batey or Patey ?, on 22 December 1813 in Knox Co., Tennessee.⁴ Comfort died before 1880.

     In the Census of 1860 enumerated 23 June 1860, Comfort Wilhite was listed as a head of household in District 14, Knox Co., Tennessee.      Levina Wilhite was born on 21 May 1816 in Kentucky.^1,2,3 She married John Arnold Perry Jones on 22 December 1836.⁴ Levina died on 31 March 1860 at age 43.¹ She was interred in New Hopewell Baptist Cemetery in Kimberlin Heights, Knox Co., Tennessee.¹

     James N. Wilhite was born on 12 February 1817 in Tennessee.^1,2 Conflicting evidence states that James N. Wilhite was born circa 1812 in Tennessee.³ Conflicting evidence states that James N. Wilhite was born circa 1815 in Kentucky.⁴ Conflicting evidence states that James N. Wilhite was born circa 1815 in Tennessee.⁵ Conflicting evidence states that James N. Wilhite was born circa 1822 in Tennessee.⁶ He married Elizabeth A. Payne on 20 May 1846 in Knox Co., Tennessee.⁷ James died on 17 January 1892 at age 74.²
