     Elizabeth made a will on 26 July 1758. Elizabeth's will: legacy son William; son Richard, legacy which formally belonged to my brother Elisha Williams; daughter Sarah Holland; son John; son Joshua; son Moses; son Benjamin. Exec. son Richard Daughry. Witnessed: Benjamin Whitfield, Robert Whitfield, Louisa Hedgepeth.2

     Her will was proved on 2 November 1758. Her estate was appraised by Joshua Council, James Council, and Peter Butler and returned 7 December 1758.3

Narrative

     Conflicting evidence states that Benjamin Daughtry was born before 1748 at Isle of Wight Co., Virginia.1,2

     Ann "Nancy" Hall may have been Benjamin's second wife. This first wife may have been the mother of some of his sons and daughters.

     On 2 February 1804, Benjamin deeded to his four youngest sons, Hardy, John, Richard, and Reddick all of his lands and chattels consisting of one thousand acres. The deed from Sampson County Deed Book 12, page 374:

To all people to whom these presents shall come, Greetings. I Benjamin Daughtrey of the State of North Carolina and County of Sampson send Greeting. Know ye that I the said Benjamin Daughtrey for and in consideration of Natural love and affection which I have and do bare unto my four youngest sons, Hardy Daughtrey, John Daughtrey, Richard Daughtrey, and Reddick Daughtrey, all of the State and County aforesaid and for other good causes and considerations, have given and granted and by these presents do give and grant unto the four Mentioned sons, Hardy John Richard and Reddick, all and singular, my lands goods and chattels following, that is to say ONE THOUSAND ACRES LAND, including my possessions that I now live on and also all my goods and chattels that I am possessed of at my death, Excepting some Articles that I have given to my other children that is to say One Desk, One Feather Bed and Furniture, One loom and geer. It is my Request and desire that my youngest son Reddick Daughtrey have my Negro woman Hannah and her increase if any to be equally Divided between the four boys, John Richard and Reddick and Hardy, To have and to hold and enjoy all and singular the lands, good and Chattels and personal Estate aforesaid unto the said mentioned Hardy Daughtrey, Reddick [sic] Daughtrey, John Daughtrey and Reddick Daughtrey, their Executors, administrators and assigns forever and I the said Benjamin Daughtrey all and singular the aforementioned Administrators and assigns against all persons whatever shall and will Warrant and forever defend by these presents my Natural life and my wife's life or widowhood Excepted. IN WITNESS WHEREOF I the said Benjamin Daughtrey have hereunto set my hand and seal this [Thursday/?] the second Day 2d day of February One thousand Eight hundred and Four.
