Amos Rose1

#77622, b. circa 1790, d. after 1860

Major Life Events

Amos Rose was probably born at Franklin Co., North Carolina, circa 1790.1,2 He married Mourning Evans, daughter of Sherwood (Sherrod) Evans and Martha Manning.1 Amos died after 1860.

Narrative

Amos moved to Richland County, South Carolina.1

Some researchers have placed William Amos Rose who married Darcus Catherine Wilson as the son of William Amos Rose and Mourning Evans. Carl J. York in his research published in the Tennessee Ancestors places this William as the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Rose which I believe is the correct placement.1

Further research of 1840 census records finds an Amos Rose in Kershaw County, South Carolina, which is next to Richland and Fieldfield Counties. I believe this to be William Amos Rose who married Mourning Evans. The number of males and females listed matches the children shown in the 1860 Richland County census for Amos and Mourning plus some additonal children who were older and had probably moved out of the household. There is not, however, a male in the correct age range to be William Amos Rose who married Darcus Catherine Wilson. There is a male in the correct age range to match the Sherwood Calvin Rose listed by Carl York as probably being the oldest son of Amos and Mourning. Also Mourning's father was Sherwood (Sherrod) Evans and her son was probaly named after her father.

A Thomas Rose can be found in the 1840 census for Richland County with a male in the correct age range for this William Rose who married Darcus Catherine Wilson, leading me to the conclusion that the William Amos Rose who married Darcus is the son of Thomas and his wife Elizabeth not the son of William Amos Rose and Mourning Evans.
